GOP Louisiana governor candidate sticks to Trump-centric ads

From: AP Louisiana

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Republican candidate for Louisiana governor Eddie Rispone is doubling down on his effort to draw voters’ attention with a pro-Donald Trump message.

Rispone is releasing his second TV ad in a week that talks of the Baton Rouge businessman’s backing of the GOP president. His campaign says the 30-second spot begins airing statewide Friday, in rotation with a TV ad that uses a similar approach.

The new spot shows Rispone declaring his support for Trump’s immigration and border wall policies. He calls himself a “conservative outsider who stands with our president.”

Rather than use more traditional biographical advertising, Rispone is introducing himself to voters by repeatedly tying himself to Trump. Neither ad mentions Democratic incumbent John Bel Edwards or Republican candidate U.S. Rep. Ralph Abraham.

The election is Oct. 12.
